A 73-year-old Aurora man suffering from dementia has been reported missing, and local police are asking the public’s help in finding him.

Noel Acosta, 400 block of Rosewood Avenue, was last seen by his family around 10 p.m. Thursday after he left his home to go for a walk.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said Acosta’s family reported him missing around 10:20 p.m. after he didn’t return. They told police Acosta suffers from dementia and memory loss.

According to Ferrelli, Illinois State Police troopers had contact with Acosta at around midnight Friday when they found him walking in the area of Interstate 94 and 87th Street in Chicago.

Acosta apparently requested a ride to the CTA Red Line Station and was taken there by a trooper. Before dropping Acosta off, the trooper ran the man’s information through a nationwide database and he came back clear, as Aurora police were still completing the initial missing persons report.

Ferrelli said Acosta apparently boarded a northbound train from the 87th Street/I-94 station.

Acosta is Hispanic, 5-foot-6, 160 pounds with short, gray hair and black eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Aurora police investigations at 630-256-5500 or their local law enforcement authorities by dialing 911.
