The Montgomery Planning Commission wants more time to look at a proposal by Aurora University for a new sports campus in the village.

The commission Thursday night voted to table the plan until the group’s Nov. 5 meeting to examine it more thoroughly.

Aurora University wants to develop a sports campus on about 45 acres at the site of the closed Wolf Run Golf Course at 1700 W. Jericho Road.

According to the plan before the Plan Commission, the property would be home to: locker rooms and training facilities; a 3.5-acre baseball stadium; a 1.3-acre softball stadium; a 4.7-acre track and field stadium; a 1.6-acre soccer stadium; and a 1.6-acre multipurpose field. There also would be 313 parking spaces.

Steve McFarland, vice president at Aurora University, said he hopes that work can begin on the complex this year.

“Our main campus is at capacity and the athletic teams are doing extraordinarily well and we are hoping to centralize the facilities they use,” he sad. “We want to get them on high caliber fields.”
