A putting drill in recent practices is helping Hinsdale Central junior Jessica Lee.

The Oak Brook resident won her first West Suburban championship Wednesday, Sept. 30, with a 1-over-par 73 at Village Greens of Woodridge.

The defending Class AA state champion Red Devils took their eighth consecutive conference championship and 15th overall by placing all four scorers in the top seven. Hinsdale Central (316) roared past runner-up Downers Grove North (336).

Lee beat Downers Grove North’s Rachel Leucuta by four strokes for medalist honors. Lee, who had 30 putts, said her play on the greens made the difference. .

“Today, all my putts were dropping, at least the important ones,” she said. “I have been working on reading greens. I place a tee where I think the line will be. When I putt to the area of the tee, I think it will go in. If not, I adjust the tee.”

Lee, who won her first tournament of the season, was coming off a 74 in the Naperville North Invitational Saturday, Sept. 26. She had an 81 at last year’s conference meet and placed fourth.
