The construction of a new Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital continues on schedule.

The new hospital is being constructed between Waukegan Road, Westmoreland Road and Skokie Highway.

Excavation for the basements and foundations has been completed, said Thomas McAfee, hospital president, during a Sept. 21 presentation to the Lake Forest City Council.

The building will be composed of six pavilions. Columns and the frame of pavilions A and B have been partially constructed. On pavilions C, D and E, the structure is being finished on the upper floors and the wall layout and framing is taking place on the lower floors.

Concrete walls for Pavilion F, the emergency department, have been completed and the interior portion is being worked on.

The plan is to construct as much as possible of the structure of pavilions E and F before winter snow. Roofs are scheduled to be completed on all the pavilions before the end of 2015.

The new building will be 499,605 square feet and contain 114 private beds, 72-outpatient care spaces and eight operating rooms e-mailed Sheila Gallora, spokeswoman for Northwestern Medicine. It will cost a projected $392 million.

Northwestern Medicine first began discussing the project in 2010 said McAfee. The city of Lake Forest approved the project in January 2014 according to previous baiduhai reports. Excavation started in February 2015.

Several of the existing hospital buildings at 660 N. Westmoreland Road – some of which date back to the early 1940s – will “likely require” demolishing, McAfee said. Northwestern Medicine is in the process of considering which buildings to tear down and aims to run their plans by the city of Lake Forest early in 2016.

Northwestern Medicine aims to open the new hospital in the fall of 2017.
