Libertyville finished second in the PepsiCo Showdown with a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Lyons on Sunday afternoon at DePaul University in Chicago.

The loss ended a tough weekend for the Wildcats, who also lost to Warren on Friday in a North Suburban Conference Lake Division game.

Adrian Valadez got the game-winner in the 89th minute on Sunday for Lyons (10-3-1).

After a scoreless first half, Libertyville (8-3-0) took a 1-0 lead on Ryan Wittenbrink’s goal. Lyons drew even in the 69th minute on a header by Nick Economou off a free kick.

The 80-minute regulation game ended that way, and two five-minute overtimes followed. Only 1:14 remained in the second OT when Valadez scored.

Without the goal, the game would have gone to a shootout.
