A Long Grove man died of natural causes while driving his car Wednesday night. The unguided car then crashed into another vehicle, injuring its driver, according to officials.
According to a release from Detective Chris Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Yuri Cipurko, 56, of Long Grove, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Illinois Route 53 near Old Hicks Road when his health began to fail. The incident occured just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Covelli said.
“The driver … entered the southbound lanes of traffic,” the report said. “The Jeep struck a Toyota Camry, as the Toyota was traveling southbound.”
The Toyota’s driver sustained “non-life-threatening injuries,” the report reads. But an ambulance rushed Cipurko to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to the report.
Neither car had any additional passengers, Covelli said.
