Would the Cowboys have considered trading for Jay Cutler earlier this week had Jay himself not had a hamstring injury? – Kash K., Frisco, Tex.

The Cowboys have roughly $10 million in salary cap room after Tuesday’s trade with the Bills for quarterback Matt Cassel and that is a lot of room to navigate the remainder of the season with. However, it’s not nearly enough room to fit the contract of Cutler, who has a base salary of $15.5 million this season. Dallas was seeking a backup for Brandon Weeden while Tony Romo is on the shelf. The Bears couldn’t trade Cutler in the offseason and there is no way they can trade him in-season, healthy or not.
