The College of Lake County’s Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan was briefly on lockdown Wednesday night following a report of an aggravated battery two blocks away from the Genesee Street campus.
Police determined the report to be unfounded and lifted the precautionary lockdown in about 40 minutes.
Waukegan police Cmdr. Joe Florip said on Thursday that a woman notified College of Lake County police just before 8 p.m. that she had witnessed a stabbing near the McDonald’s restaurant at Grand Avenue and Sheridan Road, which is north east of the Lakeshore Campus. CLC police instituted an external lockdown at 7:52 p.m. in what was described via its alert system as a precautionary measure.
According to Florip, Waukegan police officers sent to the scene determined the report to be unfounded, and the lockdown was lifted at 8:33 p.m. No arrests or injuries were reported.
