Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich will celebrate the International Day of Peace with a Mass Monday at Queen of Peace High School in Burbank.

The high school, 7659 Linder Ave., invited Cupich to share the special day with its students and faculty and to celebrate its Mass. It will be his first visit to the school since he became archbishop in November.

“The International Day of Peace aligns beautifully with our mission and our value of social justice,” Queen of Peace spokeswoman Amy Lapinski said.

The International Day of Peace, unofficially known as World Peace Day, has been observed annually on Sept. 21 since 1981. Every year, people throughout he world take part in various activities and events centered on a theme. “Partnerships for Peace — Dignity for All” is the theme for 2015.

The Queen of Peace Mass will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday and is open to the public. Seating is limited.

Queen of Peace staff and students have organized the event and are eagerly looking forward to Cupich’s visit, according to Queen of Peace President Anne O’Malley.

The day will be eventful as well for members of the school’s 1966 graduating class who are celebrating their 50th anniversary as graduates.

“Prior to the Mass, we are hosting a luncheon for all members of the Class of 1966,” Lapinski said. “… We will give them a chance to gather, reminisce and begin planning for their 50th reunion.”
