Two teenage boys have been charged with robbing a 16-year-old with a pellet gun Sunday morning in Elmwood Park, police say.

A 17-year-old from Hanover Park and a 15-year-old from Elmwood Park were both charged Sept. 13 with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery and unlawful restraint, Elmwood Park police say. The 15-year-old was also charged with possession of marijuana. Neither suspect was identified by police because they are under 18.

According to Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano, around 9 a.m. Sept. 13 the two suspects approached the 16-year-old boy near 76th Avenue and Marwood Street.

One of the teenagers showed a handgun, which was actually a pellet gun, and took $50 from the 16-year-old, Fagiano said.

Fagiano said someone saw the robbery take place and called the police.

Police were able to talk to the victim about the incident and then arrested the 15-year-old suspect near 76th Avenue and Altgeld Street, Fagiano said.

Police then brought the victim to the scene, where he identified the 15-year-old as being involved in the robbery attempt.

All three teenagers knew each other, Fagiano said.

After being charged, the two were fingerprinted and released to their parents or guardians. A court date will be set by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office’s Juvenile Justice Bureau.
