A Northlake man fired a gun into the bedroom of a house in the city recently, police say.
Martin F. Perez, 22, of the first block of King Arthur Court, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and criminal damage to property.
Northlake police say officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Morse Avenue on Aug. 29 around 5:20 a.m. Once on the scene, police say they found a bullet had been fired through a bedroom window of a residence and had struck an interior wall. The two residents of the home, who were sleeping in the room at the time the shots were fired, were not hurt.
Police also say they found several small-caliber shell casings on the street in front of the residence but that nothing else was seen to have been hit by gunfire.
On Aug. 31, using a description given to them of the suspected shooter’s vehicle, police pulled over Perez and reportedly found the firearm used in the shooting.
During questioning Perez allegedly admitted to the shooting and was charged with multiple gun offenses, police said. He does not have a concealed carry license, they said.
Northlake Deputy Chief of Police Jay Militello said that because police found no evidence that any specific person or residence was intentionally targeted, authorities did not pursue additional charges like attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon.
After appearing in bond court, Perez was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 22 at the Maywood courthouse, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney.
