player ready...Put on your best running shoes for Wright-Way Rescue’s 5th annual Run for Rescue and Wag Fest on Sept. 20 at Linne Woods.
The annual event raises money for Wright-Way’s shelter by affording care to nearly 4,500 animals each year, executive director and founder Christy Anderson said.
People can bring their dogs on the track that day and can expect a beer garden, family picnic, live entertainment and even a dog agility course. All beer for the event was donated by Off Color Brewing.
“Run for Rescue gives us a chance to welcome not only the Morton Grove community but also outside of the community for those we’ve touched,” Anderson said. “We have people who adopt from all over the country, largely in the Chicagoland area.”
According to Anderson, the run is the biggest fundraiser of the year where pets can run alongside their owners, although she advises people to make that judgment based on their experience with the pet. Water stations will be set up along the course and a veterinarian will be on sight.
“At the run we feature animals that people can connect with and have been success stories,” she said. “We’re inviting those pets back to see the good outcome of all our efforts. It’s become quite the family event, which is always great to see.”
After the race, those interested in adopting a pet or who want more information about the organization will be able to speak to someone from the nonprofit.
Pre-registration is $35 and the Wagfest following is free. For more information, visit wright-wayrescue.org.
