Lakeshore officers were dispatched about 8:48 a.m. Monday to the 400 block of South Sullivan Street, just west of County Line Road and south of U.S. 12 in the Inland Manor section of Gary, Indiana Dunes Lakeshore Police Chief Mike Bremer said. Once there, Bremer said police found the charred remains of a portable meth lab.
There were neither any injuries nor property damage. It’s the third abandoned meth lab to which they’ve responded in the last two weeks, Bremer said.
“It’s something we’d prefer not to have on our property; with the chemicals involved, it is a hazard,” Bremer said. “We don’t know who’s doing it.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Indiana National Lakeshore Tip Line at 800-727-5847.
Gary Police Department officers also responded to the meth lab, which was found on 4th Avenue between Sullivan and Tippecanoe Streets, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield. The officers called for hazmat retrieval, she said.
Anyone with information on drug activity in that area is asked to call the Gary Police Department Narcotics Division at 219-886-0503 or the Crime Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP
Last week, the Hobart police found and dismantled a meth lab at the far southwest corner of the former St. Sava’s property parking lot at the edge of a wooded area between 49th Avenue and Liverpool Road in Hobart. The lab consisted of coolers, a grinding device and other items used to make the drug. Railroad ties stacked around the site created a barrier, police said.
In that matter a 30-year-old Lake Station woman and two men, both 30, from Hobart and Lake Station, are in custody facing charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, Hobart police said.
