Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Welcome to RedEye’s “Song of the Day,” an ongoing feature where music reporter Josh Terry or another RedEye staff member highlights something they’re listening to. Some days the track will be new, and some days it will be old. No matter what, each offering is something you should check out. Check back every weekday for a new song and subscribe to the Spotify playlist below.

Do you know what day it is? It’s Riot Fest Day. Gates open at 11 a.m. for the Douglas Park-based three-day-event, and the weather might actually turn out to be rain-free and pleasant. Just kidding, it’s probably going to pour.

But don’t let our first taste of the bad part of fall get you down because Chicago’s Into It. Over It. is going to start the festival weekend the right way. The project of local songwriter Evan Weiss (who you probably know from Pet Symmetry and Their / They’re / There or the dozens of times I’ve written about him), Into It. Over It.’s delicate and heartfelt brand of indie rock makes for a damn good afternoon festival set. If last year’s Lollapalooza show was any indication, Weiss and his band will bring good vibes and a lot of energy today.

In honor of the weekend and Weiss, let’s revisit Into It. Over It.’s excellent music video for “The Shaking of Leaves.” Directed by John Komar and artist Reza Iman, who did all the gorgeous animations, the clip is the kind of visual that hits you right in your emotional gut. While I don’t want to get too much into plot specifics, the story follows the cutest cartoon dog ever as he fights crime and deals with an occasionally cruel owner. Watch it below and don’t say I didn’t warn you: It might cause some intense cry-feelings.
