To quote one of film’s crowning achievements, 1989’s Patrick Swayze-starring “Road House,” “All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it’s absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.” If there was a fourth rule, the news today probably would make it, “And four, if you’re going to remake this movie, it’d better star UFC champion Ronda Rousey.”

According to a new report by Variety, this is exactly what’s happening: Rousey will play the lead role originated by Swayze’s in an upcoming reboot of “Road House.” This. Is. A. Great. Idea. Even though I’m of the mindset that you shouldn’t fix what’s not broken, I couldn’t think of a better star than Rousey for this role. She’s been absolutely on fire in her career lately and was recently voted the No. 1 Mixed Martial Arts female fighter in the world. Plus, she’s no stranger to movies–she appeared in “The Expendables 3” as well as cameo roles in “Entourage” and “Furious 7″—all instant classics if you ask my friend Pat.

As Variety notes, “Sources say Rousey recently reached out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, to ask for her blessing to star in the remake, which insiders say Niemi gladly gave.” While the script hasn’t been finalized, Rousey is meeting with writers who hope to kick the project out of “The Planning Bar” and into “Production Street” in 2016.

Before you think this is too good to be true, Rousey confirmed the news on Facebook, writing, “It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn’t be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze … I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of.”

If you haven’t seen “Road House,” you’ve been missing out. It’s probably on TNT right now.
