Even if the new attendance-boundary and building-addition plan for elementary schools goes into effect in Elgin School District U46, it would have little impact on the district’s high schools and middle schools.
District leaders decided last winter that they would concentrate firs on restructuring the elementary attendance areas so as to reduce existing or predicted overcrowding at several schools, most of them on Elgin’s West Side. The leaders decided that once that decision was made, the administration and the U46 Citizens Advisory Council would decide whether to make any changes to middle and high school attendance areas and whether to close one or more elementary schools — most of them in the Bartlett-Hanover Park-Wayne area — that have fewer students than they could hold.
