Two adults and two minors were arrested Monday after several fights broke out during Zion’s Labor Day parade, according to police.
The altercations forced an early end to the holiday event for some participants who were diverted by police to a different route. Deputy Police Chief Kirk Henderson said about 85 percent of the parade floats and participants had already reached the end before the disruption.
According to Henderson, police and Zion Park District officials responded to Shilo Park after receiving calls about several fights.
The fights were over by the time officers arrived, said Henderson, adding that police attempted to disperse the remaining crowds away from the parade route.
That’s when new fights broke out on the 1600 block of 27th Street, Henderson said.
Officers quickly identified two adults and two minors who were involved, police said. All four face charges under local ordinances. Two of the arrests were recorded on video by a parade attendee, who provided the video to the News-Sun.
Johnathan Thomas Sr., 44, of Zion, was charged with obstruction of a peace officer. Jonathan Thomas, 18, of Zion, was charged with disorderly conduct, mob action and resisting peace officers.
A 15-year-old from Zion was charged with mob action and a 14-year-old was charged with aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer.
All four were released on $120 signature bonds with court dates on Oct. 13 in Park City Branch Court, Henderson said.
