Mourners gathered at St. Sabina Catholic Church in the Englewood neighborhood Saturday to remember the daughter of a community activist.
Tamara Sword, 32, was the daughter of activist Andrew Holmes. She was shot and killed at an Indianapolis gas station in a random shooting after she and her friends left a nightclub Aug. 22.
Holmes is a fixture at crime scenes in Chicago, often consoling victims in times of grief.
On Saturday, Holmes consoled his own family, including Sword’s five children.
Saturday, friends and family of Sword’s wore lavender and purple, her favorite colors, as they gathered to pray, sing and remember the woman they say was a wonderful mother and role model for her children, ages 6 through 16.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger led the prayer service.
