On Sept. 11-14, the Vernon Hills Lions Club is hosting the Kelly Miller Circus as a fundraiser for its organization.

The Kelly Miller Circus includes the use of elephants, camels, zebras, tigers and more. In the wake of documentaries like “Blackfish” and countless local governments shutting down venues where animals are forced to entertain or perform, it is clear that this event does more harm than it does good.
I implore Vernon Hills Lions Club members to immediately end the chapter’s affiliation with the Kelly Miller Circus.
Furthermore, I ask the Kelly Miller Circus to immediately pledge to phase out the use of all animals in their acts, that the animals be placed in well-funded sanctuaries and that the circus fund the sanctuaries as a form of payment for the animals who have been performing for the circus. This will serve to end their slavery and value them as employees of the company, as they certainly contribute to the attraction and revenue potential.
Most important, I encourage the people of Vernon Hills and surrounding areas to not attend the circus to show the Lions Club there are more ethical ways to fundraise.
Sincerely,
Cole Deloye
