Organizers are preparing for the second annual Judd A Thon 0.1K race, a test of endurance hosted by Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 in downtown Naperville.

The run, which raises funds for the VFW National Children’s Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich., is set for 10:01 a.m. Sept. 20 at the post, 908 W. Jackson Ave.

Participants are encouraged to wear running gear, or a favorite costume. A prize will go to the most outrageously attired runner – or walker.

Longer than a football field, the competitive event’s course can be covered with an assistive device if desired.

“We will have a special grouping for those with walkers,” the committee said. “Last year they raced each other to see who was the fastest to do 0.1K.”

Advance registration assures racers of a shirt and a 0.1K sticker for the car window. A water station will be set up around the midpoint of the route, and pre-race warm-ups, including calisthenics led by a retired Marine master gunnery sergeant, are in the plans as well. A variety of activities will take place post-race.

Advance registration costs $20. Those who sign up on the day of the event will pay $25. More information is available at 630-420-9820 or www.napervfw3873.org/.
