Tweeting is a fact of life and we’re all pretty bad at it, to be honest. Twitter gives our unfiltered thoughts a fine daily outlet. Never have poorly-worded jokes, half-thoughts or collective outrage when someone else has a poorly-worded joke or half-thought had a more public forum. If Jon Rudnitsky, the latest hired cast member for the 41st season of “Saturday Night Live,” didn’t know this, he sure does now.
Today, Gawker uncovered some pretty hacky and offensive social media posts made by the rising 25-year-old comedian. Among these tweets included a handful calling women “whores,” one using the “c-word,” a homophobic Oscars joke and a pretty off-the-mark “gang bang” comment. Read them below.

Then there’s this Vine, which plays up some lazy stereotypes about Mexican Americans.
While not culturally offensive, the fact that Rudnitsky hates Carly Rae Jepsen is also pretty engregious.
ISIS expands control, Homeland Security goes broke, govnt orchestrated assassinations in Moscow, and now #CarlyRaeJepsen is back.

Listen. There’s a few jokes I’ve written that I thought were funny but, after considering the lack of favorites and retweets, were a total swing-and-a-miss. But on further consideration, those were mostly due to lame Jimmy Buffett puns and groan-worthy one-liners rather than being misogynistic or culturally-insensitive. But the fact remains that it is very easy to be funny without playing to our basest qualities and prejudices. Comedy is great when it punches up, not when a white dude makes a joke with the punchline that Mexican neighborhoods are violent or that women have sexual autonomy.
If you think “SNL” is on a downward spiral in quality, this totally won’t soothe your nerves. But on the other hand, maybe it’s good to step back for a second and give Rudnitsky the benefit of the doubt. These posts were made over a year ago and while it may reflect an idiotic younger version of himself, he may be pretty cool now. Who knows? Judge him by the content of his character, not the quality of his tweets, which let’s face it were pretty bad.
