The Village of Oak Lawn’s popular Fall on the Green event starts on Sept. 11 and runs through Sept. 13 and features a full range of music from country and rock to tunes from the 70s and 80s.

The free fest takes place on the Village Green, located east of the Municipal Center and north of the Oak Lawn Public Library. It’s been an annual event for at least 15 years, said Steve Barrett, director of Public Works and Special Events.

Live music will be in the beer tent and on the main stage with performers including such local favorites as Hillbilly Rockstarz, Slippery When Wet and The Walk-ins. The music starts at 6 p.m. on the first day and ends at 8:30 p.m. on the final day.

The children’s area will have themed inflatables, obstacle course, tattoo tent, and other activities. The teen area will feature several popular activities, like the Eurobungy, Wrecking Ball and Climbing Wall, as well as a DJ and karaoke.

An assortment of food vendors will be stationed in the food tent and around the Village Green. Popcorn and funnel cakes will be available for purchase as will Good Humor ice cream dispensed by a driver in a crisp white uniform and bow tie.

The arts and crafts tent will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to -6 p.m. Bean bag toss games and raffles are also part of the fun. Local businesses, including car dealerships, will have their wares on display.

Parking is free at the Metra Oak Lawn Patriot Station at 9525 S. Tulley Ave., with a shuttle bus to get to and from the fest.

Fall on the Green has always drawn huge crowds with last year’s Saturday events drawing an estimated 10,000 people. Oak Lawn residents and people from surrounding communities attend, leading, Barrett said, to “every year, you run into someone you know or an old friend. At least that’s what happens to me.”
