The Luxembourg Brotherhood of America will host its 79th annual Scobermesse event at the Morton Grove Civic Center on Aug. 30.

Beginning with Mass at 12:30 p.m., the event includes a time of celebration of the Luxembourg culture with family games, live music and other festivities.

George Jones, president of the brotherhood’s local section, said the event first began in 1904 and continued every year until around 1967. The festival – which is meant to mirror an annual event held in Luxembourg – was resurrected a few years ago.

“Back then it was a farmer’s festival where many would bring in a fall harvest,” Jones said. “When it formed here [in America] they started the event to mirror that event.”

Guests can expect Luxie sausage along with other traditional food items and a cash bar. Early tickets are on sale; $10 adults and $5 children (5-12). Those 5 and under can enter for free. At the door, Jones said, the ticket prices will be $5 more.
