Drug and gun charges are pending against seven people in connection with a house party that led to shooting and an hours-long siege with police early Sunday in Matteson, according to police.
Police Chief Michael Jones said police released more than two dozen people after issuing them tickets for obstructing justice or disorderly conduct stemming from the large party at a house in the 900 block of Princeton Avenue.
Police said there were four shooters involved in the incident, which resulted from a dispute arising during the party.
“We still have seven in custody that we are investigating for firearms and drug offenses,” Jones said, adding that the total number of tickets and charges won’t be available until the investigation is finished.
No one was wounded during the melee, but police recovered 30 to 40 spent shell casings and two handguns on or near the property.
Two of the seven being held were arrested Sunday after fleeing by car and being stopped near U.S. 30 and Willow Road, police reported, and two more guns were recovered.
Officers responded about 3 a.m. Sunday to multiple reports of gunfire, and several people refused to leave the house, prompting a call to the South Suburban Emergency Response Team when negotiations failed.
After a three-hour standoff, the response team used an armored vehicle to break down the front door of the house and arrest those inside, police said.
