Stephen Amell loves WWE. WWE loves celebrities. So, naturally, the two sides have been working together on an angle that will culminate with a tag-team match involving the star of The CW’s “Arrow” Sunday at SummerSlam. Does Amell have any wrestling experience? It doesn’t sound like it. But if Jay Leno, Jon Heder and Snooki can step in the ring, I’m pretty sure Amell can do it.
“I’m very excited,” Amell said during his Q&A Saturday at Wizard World at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. “For the wrestling fans here, I actually got a really nice note from Edge, a fellow Canadian. He’s going to be on season two of ‘The Flash’ as Atom Smasher. He sent me some tips and then he said ‘For God’s sake, enjoy your entrance.'”
Amell will team up with Neville to face Stardust and King Barrett. He said his outfit for the match will be inspired by his Green Arrow costume. Well, for the most part.
“If you think I’m wrestling in leather pants, you have another thing coming,” Amell said. “I’m wrestling as me, but I thought I would be remiss if I didn’t take the fact that I get to play a superhero on TV and combine that with the childhood dream of being in a WWE match into some sort of weird, fantastic fantasy sandwich.”
Because comic convention fans love to ask hypothetical questions, one fan at the Q&A asked Amell which wrestler he would most like to face. Amell went old school with his response.
“This going to be hyper specific: I’d want to wrestle Macho Man in the Wrestlemania IV tournament,” Amell said.
Anyone who doubted Amell’s passion for wrestling before probably won’t question it after that response. The guy seems to know his wrasslin’.
