Former Elburn police Officer David Wright recently pleaded not guilty to nearly three dozen counts alleging he sexually assaulted and abused a female relative for a decade, according to court records.

Wright, 54, last of Campton Hills, remains held in Kane County Jail on $500,000 bail charged with a total of 33 counts that include predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. His attorney has filed a bond-reduction request for Wright, who has been in custody since his arrest in April.

During an initial court appearance in May, Wright told Kane County Judge Clint Hull that he, his wife and three children were living check to check on his Elburn police salary, while facing half a million dollars in medical debt. Wright has since been fired by the village, according to published reports.

Prosecutors allege Wright repeatedly assaulted the female for 10 years, beginning in 2005 when she was younger than 13. She was interviewed in late April and provided “specific details about the abuse” to investigators, according to prosecutors. Wright was arrested the same day.

He is scheduled to return to court in September.
