An autopsy is scheduled Thursday for a Hammond man who was found dead Wednesday in the Grand Calumet River.

Daniel Auwerda, 60, of the 1500 block of 172nd Place, was found in the river, near 155th Street and White Oak Avenue, just after 1 p.m., Hammond Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Rich Hoyda said. No foul play is suspected at this time in his death, but the matter is under investigation, he said.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources, along with the Hammond Police and Fire Departments assisted.
