Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

You must be feeling a little down about the Bears.

I know I am. Oh, the Kevin White injury. It hurts.

But you know, I picture Jay Cutler, one year from now, in another city, muttering to himself, “I wonder what it would have been like to throw to that guy. I’ll bet it would have been pretty cool.”

I only have one answer for all this.

Run the football.

Run it on first down.

Run it on second-and-5.

Run it on third-and-8.

Run it when you’re up 20, or down 40.

Call me crazy, but I believe the Bears, for all their faults, have the personnel in place to be maulers.

Kyle Long, Matt Slauson, Will Montgomery. I’ll take that. I’ll take Matt Forte and the army of running backs behind him looking for air time.

Yeah, sure, it would have been nice to see White. Good kid, works hard, nice attitude.

But this team is going nowhere until that defense is fixed.

And man, it needs to be fixed. The best I can say, and you should practice this, is “I really don’t know.” Because there are so many unknowns on the defensive side, who can really say what Jared Allen is going to be, how Shea McLellin will adapt, who the studs will or won’t be?

You may want to take the year off and come back next year, after they have drafted some defensive talent for this team. You know, like I wanted them to do this year.

In the meantime, the third-place Cubs continue to roll.

It’s like they’re in first place or something!

Quick attendance note: How come the only time U.S. Cellular Field fills up with passionate fans is when the White Sox play the Cubs? Shame on you, Sox fans, myself included.

As for the Cubs, they’re following the Blackhawks model: Draft superstars, young and cute.

Everyone loves that!

And with that we say sorry to Northwestern football players who wanted to unionize. Too bad, you’ll have to settle for a degree from one of the elite universities in the U.S.

I know, life’s rough.
