Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Expectations were high for the Hornets until two weeks ago, when coach Julie Sweet found out that last year’s top golfer Nikita Menta, a junior from Burr Ridge, was transferring to Chicago U-High. Menta was a sectional qualifier and finished seventh in the IJGA Open Aug. 4 at Poplar Creek. Her new school does not field a girls golf team.

“It’s going to be a big rebuild this year, but that’s OK,” Sweet said. “We will work hard, have fun and see what happens. We might surprise some people.”

Without Menta, Hinsdale South enters the season without a dependable scorer. Three seniors return from last season’s Hinsdale South Regional seventh-place team: Mikaela Soderholm, Jasmine Jaramillo and Jacklyn Hofstetter.
