Bennett Cotten, New Trier sophomore

After one year at Loyola, Cotten, one of the best underclassmen in the state, transferred to New Trier for his sophomore year. He played some of his best golf in the final week of his freshman season, winning the New Trier Sectional title and posting a fifth-place finish at the Class 3A state tournament.

Andrew Huber, New Trier senior

Like his new teammate, Bennett Cotten, Huber saved his best for last a year ago. Huber recorded top-eight finishes at the regional, sectional and state tournaments. He also had a big summer, highlighted by his appearance at the prestigious Western Junior and victory at the Chick Evans Junior Amateur. Cotten and New Trier senior Matt Murlick also played at the Western Junior at Riverside Golf Club.

Drew Miles, North Shore Country Day senior

Miles was instrumental in North Shore Country Day’s runner-up finishes at the 2013 and 2014 Class 1A state tournaments. Cy Oelerich, the Raiders’ first-year head coach, said Miles has been one of the team’s best players since his sophomore year and that should be the case again this fall. Miles tied for 14th as an individual at the state tournament last year.

Matt Murlick, New Trier senior

After his best season in high school a year ago — it included a win at the Class 3A Glenbrook North Regional — Murlick said he had the most consistent summer of his career. Although he said he didn’t card any “really low scores,” Murlick won the Deerfield Open, a Mid-American Junior Golf Tour event, in mid-April.

Grant Reese, Glenbrook South senior

As a junior, Reese matched up well against the state’s best Class 3A competition. At the loaded Glenbrook North Regional, he tied for fifth with a 72. He followed that up with another 72 at the New Trier Sectional, which was good for third place, before tying for 26th at the state tournament.
