If you need to haul your aluminum, plastic and glass bottles or cans down to the recycling bin, you might want to schlep them over to Whole Foods this week.
Honest Tea, the organic bottled tea company, is partnering with Whole Foods for “The Great Recycle” initiative to swap empty beverage containers for prizes at two Chicago locations in an effort to boost recycling rates nationwide.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., look for the oversized recycling bin at the Edgewater Whole Foods at 6009 N. Broadway on Thursday and the Goose Island neighborhood store at 1550 N. Kingsbury St. on Friday.
The more beverage containers you bring to get recycled, the more points you get. Redeem those points for items as small as a bottle of Honest Tea for two recyclables or as big as an iPad mini for 3,500 containers.
Other prizes include a GoPro camera (2,000 containers), skateboard (1,000 containers), a yoga mat (350 containers), an Honest Tea t-shirt or reusable bag (50 containers) and sunglasses (25 containers). The larger prizes are limited and will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis.
Since its inception in 2012, the Great Recycle tour has stopped in 20 states and recycled more than 540,000 beverage containers.
