Three treats we can’t stop thinking about: a pink drink, kimchi-covered fries and churros with chocolate.
Pink Unicorn ($10) at The Winchester
1001 N. Winchester Ave. 773-698-8703
My eyes are trained to scan cocktail menus for tequila, and with a fun name like Pink Unicorn, this drink was a no-brainer. But don’t let the name fool you, it’s not another sickeningly sweet summer margarita. Aperol and grapefruit juice are blended with a dash of habanero shrub bitters for a spicy, tart flavor that’s insanely refreshing. The glass is punctuated with a pink peppercorn salt rim that’s both Instagrammable and practical (I licked off every flake before my last sip).
Kimchi fries ($6.50) at bopNgrill
921 W. Belmont Ave. 773-799-8868
6604 N. Sheridan Road 773-654-3224
The burgers at this “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives”-certified spot will fill you up fast, but for the love of all things fried, don’t skip this side. Flaky fries are topped with a mound of caramelized kimchi, cheese sauce, bacon, scallions and sesame seeds. If you’re ordering with friends, you’ll only need one basket of these super-decadent fries to go around.
Churro y chocolate ($10) at Salero
621 W. Randolph St. 312-466-1000
If I could end every meal with a churro, I absolutely would. The modern Spanish restaurant plates three crispy, cinnamon and sugar-studded churros with dots of whipped salted chocolate, espresso pudding and milk jam. The end result looks like abstract art, but you probably won’t have any problem tearing it apart. Mix and match dips for unbeatable flavor combinations. My only critique: Sharing with a friend meant splitting the last churro, which was a massive heartbreak.
