There will be a new face in the administrative director’s seat at Rhodes School this school year.
Coleen Winterfield, 38, was recently hired as the school’s new administrative director for the school district, which encompasses River Grove and a portion of Melrose Park. She was one of 15 candidates who interviewed for the position, which was formerly held by James Robinette.
She has a one-year contract with the school district. Prior to being hired at Rhodes, she worked for 15 years as a special education and a regular teacher in Alsip School District 126.
Her new duties will be to coordinate the school district’s special education programs and help with Rhodes Music Parent Association and other duties. She said she is looking forward to getting the school year started.
“My goal is to continue to enhance the reputation Rhodes already has,” she said.
She wants to do this through the curriculum as well as through the community in the school through community outreach and involving parents.
She has a master’s degree in special education from Governor’s State University and another master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University.
Brian McConnell, in his first year as the school’s new principal, likes the experience Winterfield brings to the school. She was one of 15 candidates who applied for the position.
“She was ready to take the lead,” he said. “It was the right fit at the right time.”
Winterfield lives in Orland Park and is married with two children. When not working, she enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities.
“I enjoy everything outdoors, hiking, bike riding, sporting events,” she said. “I enjoy spending time in the city.”
