Baer Fisher, who played for the Trevians and graduated in 2004, replaces Rob Etheridge. Fisher got into coaching after playing in college at Division III Middlebury (Vt.), but this is his first high school job.
“I’ve always wanted to coach in high school,” he said. “I enjoyed playing in high school, representing your school. I valued that as a player, and I will value that as a coach. I was just looking for the right fit.”
Fisher, who was part of the Middlebury team that won the 2007 national title, previously was an assistant coach with the University of Chicago men’s team.
Fisher said he met with some of the Loyola players when he was hired in the spring. He expressed to them that it will be a process, but he said he’s excited about the future of the team. The Ramblers haven’t won a regional title since 2008.
“I am really enthused about the year and about building a culture here,” he said. “Our first job is helping the players build pride in the program.”
The season officially starts Wednesday, Aug. 12. Loyola’s first game is Tuesday, Aug. 25, at home against Lake View.
