A 10-month-old University Park boy suffocated Monday morning, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Ayden Short, of the 600 block of Sullivan Lane, died of positional asphyxia/entrapment, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said. The boy was pronounced dead at 8:34 a.m. at Franciscan St. James Hospital and Health Center, according to the medical examiner’s office, which did not provide details on the accident.
The University Park Police and fire department could not immediately be reached for comment.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the boy’s death, according to agency spokeswoman Veronica Resa. The agency has had no prior contact at the home, Resa wrote in an email.
