Three men have been charged with armed robbery in connection with the robbery of a Days Inn in unincorporated Elk Grove Village earlier in the week, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.
Blue Island resident James Meyers, 21, as well as Theodis Thomas, 21, and Steven James, 23, both of Chicago, were charged in connection with the robbery that took place at about 6:45 p.m. on July 27 in the 1900 block of East Higgins Road.
Meyers faces an additional armed robbery count after officials learned he was involved in a July 15 robbery of the New Way Food and Liquors in Ford Heights, according to the office.
The three were taken into custody late Monday by Willow Springs police for a robbery that occurred in that jurisdiction, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigations into Meyers’ involvement in a number of other Cook County armed robberies remains ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Meyers was also charged with criminal damage to government property after he was found to have broken a video camera at the Sheriff’s Police Department and slammed his head and body into a hallway wall as he was being escorted by Sheriff’s Police,” the release states. “He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.”
