The Naperville Park District is inviting the public to comment on capital improvements proposed for 2016.

As part of it’s annual budget process, a community open house is planned for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, in the lobby of the Naperville Municipal Center in downtown Naperville.

Park District staff will answer questions and display aerial images and sitemaps of the planned projects for 2016.

“Our first step in the process is to take these ideas, present them to the public and gather input to see if there are any thoughts or reactions to these proposed improvements,” said Eric Shutes, director of planning for the district.

The capital projects being proposed include a sidewalk restoration at Bailey Hobson Woods Park, shoreline restoration at Baileywood Park, trail improvement at May Watts Park, central maintenance facility development at Knoch Park, and river trail development at Knoch Knolls Park.

At Frontier Sports Complex the park district is also proposing a new restroom and parking lot, renovations to the athletic fields and a new ADA accessible pathway.

In addition, playground renovations are in the plan for Huntington Estates Park, Old Sawmill Park and Walnut Ridge Park. After the initial open house, there will be follow-up meetings for residents to give suggestions on the type of equipment they would like to see in these parks.

According to Shutes, the park district does have ballpark numbers for the projects, but will not have truly accurate costs until the detailed designs are decided on.

“We start at a basic level, meet with the public and invoke public conversation,” Shutes said. “Once we receive comments, we can refine it and create more detailed plans and costs assessments.”
