There was a long line of people waiting outside a new River Grove store ready to do some shopping July 18.
That’s what River Grove Mayor Marilynn May said she saw outside of the new Ross Dress For Less store in the village’s Thatcher Woods Shopping Center.
“They were lined up, ready for the store to open,” she said.
Prior to opening the doors to the store, May, village officials and store representatives had a ribbon-cutting ceremony. After that the shopping began.

“It was jam-packed,” May said.
Ray Bernero, director of economic development for River Grove, said he is happy that the store, which was unoccupied for about a year, is now occupied.
“Every day since then has been a great day,” he said. “That parking lot has been full.”
The opening of Ross Dress For Less store now makes the shopping center whole. It was one of two locations in the mall that had been empty for a while and had village officials worried about the future of the complex.
Now Bernero sees things moving in a positive direction at the location.
“Everything is coming together,” he said
