Ferris Bueller went to Wrigley Field, the Art Institute and the Sears Tower. But he won’t make it to the state’s top tourist attraction until this summer.

Navy Pier will host an outdoor showing of the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” to kick off its first-ever Movies on the Pier next month.

The free movie series will be shown every Thursday from Aug. 6 through Sept. 10 at the Pepsi Skyline Stage at Navy Pier, its covered outdoor theater venue. Movies in August will start at 8 p.m. and movies in September will begin at 7 p.m.

No tickets are required. Moviegoers under 18 years old need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Seating is on a first-come basis. Unlike Movies in the Park, no outside food and beverages can be brought into the Skyline Stage area, said a Navy Pier spokesman. But there is a concession stand there. Also, Navy Pier will give the first 100 guests a movie-themed gift.

Here’s the movie schedule:

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” on Aug. 6, about a month before the Ferris wheel closes.

“Top Gun” on Aug. 13, coinciding with the Air and Water Show weekend

“Ghostbusters” on Aug. 20

“The Goonies” on Aug. 27

“Caddyshack” on Sept. 3

“Jaws” on Sept. 10, linked to the return of Venetian Night

The Movies on the Pier are in addition to the annual Chicago Park District’s Movies in the Park featuring more than 240 screenings in neighborhood parks and the Millennium Park Summer Film Series of 11 movies.
