Authorities are reviewing video surveillance records and other evidence in the weekend shooting death of a 25-year-old Berwyn man.

Berwyn police responded to numerous calls of shots fired at 2:31 a.m. Saturday on the 1800 block of South Gunderson Avenue and found Daniel Oscar Ortiz with apparent gunshot wounds near his home in the west suburb.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office pronounced Ortiz dead at the scene, ruling the death Sunday as a homicide from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Berwyn Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit, aided by the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System members, secured the immediate area, processed the crime scene and canvassed the neighborhood for information related to the crime.

No suspect or suspects have been identified, and the motive is unknown, according to a release from Berwyn police. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Unit at (708) 795-5600.
