Donte Echols remains in Kane County Jail on $100,000 bail following his arrest earlier this month on allegations he had less than 15 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver it while within 1,000 feet of Oak Park Elementary School, court records show.
Echols appeared in court Thursday for a hearing during which he was appointed a public defender. He is scheduled to return to court in two weeks.
In February, Echols pleaded guilty to pushing a female teenager onto a bed and holding her down during an August 2014 incident, a case that originally had Echols facing a sexual assault charge. Echols was sentenced to two years of probation and to register with Aurora police as a sex offender, while getting credit for several months he spent in jail.
Prosecutors filed a probation violation against Echols in April that accused him of failing a drug test and not registering as a sex offender. He later pleaded guilty to not notifying police of an address change related to his sex offender registration. Echols now wants to withdraw that plea because of a “limited understanding” of what he was doing, court documents show.
