Two men were injured this holiday weekend following three shootings in Aurora, police said.
The men, ages 17 and 24, were both shot around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Evans Avenue, said Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
According to Ferrelli, the 17-year-old said he was walking near Sexton Street and Evans Avenue when he heard what he thought were fireworks going off around him.
Ferrelli said the man quickly learned he had been shot in the arm and chest. Although serious, the man’s injuries were non-life threatening, Ferrelli said.
At the same time, a 24-year-old man said he was driving in the area when he thought he heard something hit his vehicle. Ferrelli said when the man got out of his car to check for damage, he was shot in the leg.
The man was able to drive himself to the hospital for treatment.
Ferrelli said a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Evans Avenue and a home in the 700 block of Sexton Street were both struck during the incident.
Witnesses described the suspects as two men–one who was wearing a mask. The suspects were seen running from the area shortly after the shooting.
