An Illinois family suffered non-life threatening injuries when a blown tire caused their pickup to go off the road and roll over numerous times on Sunday afternoon on Interstate 65 near Lowell.
Around 12:20 p.m., an Indiana State Police investigator said Cicero, Ill., resident Gustavo Rodriguez, 34, and his family were traveling north on I-65 — on their way back from Indiana Beach — in a 2002 GMC pickup with an eight-foot trailer when the pickup blew a tire.

The blown tire caused the pickup to go off the road and begin to roll, according to Master Trooper Aaron Trammel, and the trailer became unhitched from the pickup and went down the grassy embankment where it overturned and came to rest in the trees. The pickup also rolled as it went down the grassy embankment and came to rest on the passenger side up against the trees.
Rodriguez and his 4-year-old daughter were taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point with non-life threatening injuries. His 15-year-old son and 10-year-old son were taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake in Gary with non-life threatening injuries. Rodriguez’s wife — 29-year-old Rayna Conejo — and his cousin — 33-year-old Rafael Conejo of Chicago — were taken to Methodist Hospitals Southlake in Merrillville, also with non-life threatening injuries
“Everyone was wearing their seat belts which helped prevent serious injuries,” Trammel said.
