A Batavia man has been charged with home invasion after allegedly forcing his way into a friend’s home and beating the man, Batavia police said.

Batavia police said the incident began around 3:10 a.m. Wednesday when they were called to a home in the 700 block of Walnut Street. There, officers found the caller who said he had been attacked by Jose Garcia, 31, 700 block of Walnut Street.

According to the man, he and Garcia were friends, but due to issues over personal matters the two had gotten into an argument early Wednesday morning.

Police said Garcia allegedly forced his way into the man’s home and began fighting him, causing non-life threatening injuries.

Both men were interviewed and charges were lodged against Garcia. He was charged with felony home invasion and felony aggravated battery.

Police said that if convicted of the Class X home invasion charge, Garcia could face between six and 30 years in prison. If convicted of the aggravated battery, he could face between one and three years, police said.
