player ready...Get out the shot glasses. Bloodshot Records is of legal drinking age, and the little indie record label (with not-so-little names attached to it) is celebrating big with a bourbon collaboration with Evanston’s Few Spirits.
For a label known for blending punk and country, bourbon seems like a fitting choice for a 21st anniversary. A bit spicier than Few’s signature bourbon, the collaboration spirit is sweet and herbaceous with notes of vanilla, said Few retail and events manager Katherine Loftus. The bourbon will be released at a party hosted by the distillery July 25, where Bloodshot acts Bobby Bare Jr., Banditos and Devil in a Woodpile will perform. About 500 bottles ($50 each) will be available at a number of bars and liquor stores throughout the city.
“When Bloodshot began, we were sitting in bars making notes on cocktail napkins, so having the chance to partner with great distilleries is exciting,” said Bloodshot co-founder Nan Warshaw.
Bloodshot celebrated its first birthday in Warshaw’s apartment, where the label started as a hobby in 1994. As it grew, it moved from the guest bedroom to the living room and dining room and on to the basement of the Wrigleyville building. At five years old, it moved to its current location in Irving Park. Today, names such as Neko Case, Ryan Adams, Lydia Loveless and Murder By Death are associated with the label.
“Few is passionate about their unique small-batch whiskeys and gins, so … it’s been an honor working with them,” Warshaw said. “It just seems like a natural fit; they are passionate about their product as we are about ours. Unique music goes with great small-batch whiskeys.”
Delilah’s (2771 N. Lincoln Ave. 773-472-2771) is one of many local bars that will pour the bourbon; it will also be stocked by the bottle at select Binny’s stores and Lakeview Liquors (2156 W. Addison St. 773-525-1916). This is the first collaboration, but folks at Bloodshot hinted at more booze brand collaborations in the future. In the meantime, toast to the label’s 21st. It’s not a birthday without bourbon, right?
