Police say an attempted “crash-and-grab” early Thursday at a store in Chicago’s Beverly community failed because the stolen minivan used by the would-be thieves blocked their entry after they rammed it into the building.

Officer Ronald Gaines, Chicago Police Department spokesman, said the thieves couldn’t get past the minivan, which was wedged between two structural supports during the break-in at the Shop 147 clothing store at 2321 W. 95th St. The incident happened about 4:15 a.m.

“I guess they couldn’t get the van out of the hole,” Gaines said, adding that “no proceeds were taken.”

Detectives are reviewing private and public security video as part of their investigation. No one has been arrested, he said.

The Shop 147, established in 2006, is a clothing and apparel retailer with a store also in Harvey.

The owner wasn’t immediately available for comment.
