I would argue that every craft beer purchased is for a good cause—you’re supporting the little guys and, well, beer—but a few Logan Square establishments are offering another motivation to pop by for a pint.
In an effort to raise funds to spruce up the nearly 100-year-old Illinois Centennial Monument, in the community space on Milwaukee and Kedzie avenues and Logan Boulevard, Revolution Brewing and bar and restaurant group Land and Sea Dept. have partnered with nonprofit Logan Square Preservation on a special American wheat ale appropriately named Monument.
Both Revolution’s brewpub (2323 N. Milwaukee Ave. 773-227-2739) and taproom (3340 N. Kedzie Ave. 773-588-2267) are offering the beer starting Wednesday. It also will be on tap within the next few days at 25 other neighborhood bars and restaurants, including Boiler Room, The Chicago Diner, Cole’s and Parson’s Chicken & Fish (see full list below). For every pint sold, $1 will be donated to Logan Square Preservation.
“Logan Square is our home neighborhood—it’s where we were born—so it seemed very fitting that we could help support the restoration of a historic monument in our neighborhood,” Revolution communications specialist Kim Elsham Vavrick said. “It’s a centennial monument, and we used Centennial hops. We love a good pun.”
The 70-foot-tall column, designed by Washington, D.C., Lincoln Memorial architect Henry Bacon, was dedicated in 1918 for Illinois’ 100th birthday. The funding will go toward masonry repairs and restoration of original benches and the surrounding area.
Revolution brewed 50 kegs of the beer, which is made with white wheat and flaked oats and dry-hopped with Crystal and Centennial hops. It’s available on draft only at these participating Logan Square-area bars and restaurants while it lasts:
