The seeds held true to form in the boys volleyball Glenbrook South Sectional semifinals on Friday, May 29, as top-seeded Loyola and second-seeded New Trier advanced. The two schools will meet in the sectional final for the second straight year at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 2.
Loyola defeated fourth-seeded Glenbrook North 31-29, 17-25, 25-23 in the first semifinal to advance to its third consecutive sectional final.
“We haven’t been the No. 1 seed as long as I’ve been here and it’s my 11th year at Loyola,” Ramblers coach Lionel Ebeling said. “That being said, our regional was very competitive, so every game we’ve got to come out. We played a great Glenbrook South team [in the regional championship] and squeaked one out. We’re used to these types of battles, but it means a lot for our school and it means a lot to be playing in the sectional championship game.”
In the second semifinal, New Trier upended third-seeded Maine East 25-16, 27-25.
“As a team, we have a really high standard of playing,” Trevians senior middle Collin Crowder said. “Coming into this match, we saw a really good match beforehand [between Glenbrook North and Loyola], so it was really tough to think about the match we had at hand when we were watching such an epic match before. I think my team really came together and we were really focused on what we had to do and I hope we can also do that in the upcoming matches.”
