Two men have been arrested by River Grove police in connection with the kidnapping of two men who they suspected had burglarized one of their homes, according to police.

Joseph Van De Carr, 39, of the 1100 block of Northwest Highway in Park Ridge, and Erik O’Caroll, 20, of the 4100 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue in Chicago, were both arrested on charges of aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint and aggravated battery. Van De Carr turned himself in to Harwood Heights police on May 20 and O’Caroll was arrested that same day at his home by Harwood Heights police.

River Grove Police Det. Damian Villagomez said the charges stem from two arrests made by Park Ridge Police Department in connection with Van De Carr’s home being burglarized on May 15, in which a large sum of money was allegedly taken from the home. John Vincent Verdino, 19, of the 3300 block of Gustav Street in Franklin Park, and Jared A Roggenkamp, 23, of Park Ridge, were both charged with one count of residential burglary in connection with the incident.

Villagomez said Van De Carr allegedly had an idea of who might have been involved in the burglary to his home. On May 18, Van De Carr confronted Verdino in River Grove in the area of Elm and Richards streets.

At that time, Van De Carr allegedly pulled Verdino off the motorcycle he was riding, punched him and threw him in the trunk of his car. Van De Carr and O’Caroll allegedly kidnapped Roggenkamp in Harwood Heights shortly thereafter.

Villagomez said the two were allegedly taken to a remote location, restrained with handcuffs and duct tape, and beaten until they told them where the money they allegedly stole was located. The two were allegedly released at 4:30 a.m. May 19 in Franklin Park after allegedly getting the money back.

Verdino’s father contacted Franklin Park police after seeing the extent of his son’s injuries, which led to Van De Carr and O’Caroll’s arrests. The investigation also caught the attention of Park Ridge police, and Verdino and Roggenkamp were arrested in connection with burglarizing Van De Carr’s home.

Villagomez said the charges came out of River Grove Police Department because of where the initial kidnapping incident took place, but their department has been working in conjunction with Harwood Heights Police Department on the case. He said court dates on those arrested are pending.
