A 34-year-old Munster man is dead after an accident in which he hit a semitrailer early Thursday, according to police.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Andrew Pietrzak was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry northbound in the 9800 block of Wicker Avenue, Lake County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Patti Van Til said. Pietrzak was driving in the outside lane when he struck the rear of a semitrailer driven by Jean Derisma, of Lake Worth, Fla., police said.
The Camry and Pietrzak were lodged under the trailer, and he died at the scene, Van Til said. Derisma was uninjured.
Lake County Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene at 1:35 a.m., Van Til said, and the investigation is ongoing.
A release from the Coroner’s office said he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
